RESTAURANT CONCEPT PROJECT
The design challenge
For this project, we were tasked with creating a business concept, designing a logo for it, and applying it.
My Concept for Orchid - Tapas Bar:
Orchid is a tapas bar in East Austin that is designed for people to work from during the day, to unwind at after work during our happy hour, and to be a cozy spot to enjoy a nightcap after 9pm.
Our goal is to provide delicious, yet affordable, shareable plates and drinks to people 25+ years of age. In addition to our thoughtfully crafted coffee and cocktail offerings, we also offer equally thoughtful mocktails. These drinks feature premium ingredients including non-alcoholic spirits, adaptogens and THC infusions.
Orchid will serve as a meeting space for community events, with special consideration of women and non-binary people, lesbians and queer people. Some examples of events we host are queer book clubs, pop up craft markets, and reality TV watch parties.
Logo Sketches & MOODBOARD
Digital sketches
The logo for Orchid that I ultimately chose uses a handmade scripted font meant to represent the feminine energy at the core of the establishment. It seamlessly ties into the hand drawn orchid symbol, both being perfectly imperfect, on the more casual side, while still maintaining a playful but put together aesthetic.
COLOR STUDY
FINAL LOGO
I am really proud of how this logo came out. While I did explore other colors, this classic Orchid Purple made the most sense.
Drafts
Here, I began exploring signage, menus, and coasters. While I like how these came out, I felt that this thinker script font did not go with the script font on my logo. I used these designs as a jumping off point, and knew I just needed to tweak them to be in line with my branding.
FINAL MOCKUPS
I am very proud of my final designs. I think they capture the vibe I set out to create, and expand on the hand drawn nature of my logo.
