Gemstone

BEVERAGE BOTTLE PACKAGE PROJECT

The design challenge

For this project, we were tasked with creating a beverage concept and designing the packaging. I was really excited about this because it was my first time ever designing something like this. I decided to create a non-alcoholic apertif that had varying levels of CBD or THC. As I worked to refine this project, I also designed the packaging for a spritzer version of the drink.

I felt very inspired by these colorful glass bottles, the bold colors and the type design. As I worked on my sketches and the name, I wanted to create a beverage that might be seen in a bottle like this.

Ideation and sketches

I workshopped a few different name concepts, and ultimately landed on Gemstone. I wanted my product to be associated with after work, or the weekend, the best parts of the week. The time we need to recharge to be the best versions of ourselves. I landed on “gemstone” as a play on charging crystals and gaining spiritual energy. I decided the flavors would be different gemstones, and felt this worked well with my colorful glass bottle idea.

Final LAbels and bottles

The biggest challenge I faced on this project was designing the gemstone for my logo. I knew I wanted it to be an emerald cut, but had trouble finding an illustrative style that felt right. Once I was happy with the direction that was going, I was able to use that element as inspiration for my spritzer box packaging. I really love how these turned out!
