LITTLE DEBBIE
PACKAGE REDESIGN PROJECT
The design challenge
For this project, we were tasked with identifying packaging that could be improved. I chose three Little Debbie dessert packages. The challenge was creating something less busy and more modern, keeping it appealing to both parents and kids, and not loosing the brand recognition they’ve built over the last 50 years.
MOODBOARD & Sketches
I liked the idea of creating a pattern to reflect the different types of sweets. While making my mood board, I tried to find good examples of this style of packaging. Once I began sketching, I was more or less just trying to experiment with different ways to organize and layout the front of the package.
Digital sketches
At this point, I brought the best layouts into illustrator. I decided to tackle the Cosmic Brownie Packaging first. I began incorporating the colorful sprinkles, and experimenting with different placements.
FLaVOR DRAFTS
At this point, I was pretty happy with the Cosmic Brownie design. I then started working on my other two flavor options. I really liked these colorful drafts, but it didn’t accurately show what the other desserts look like, so I decided to keep going.
FINAL PACKAGING
The dimensions of the Little Debbie Boxes are very wide and thin, so it was tricky finding the right mockup. I am very happy with the way these turned out, and I think they all look cohesive. It was the most challenging to make the Zebra Cakes package due to the colors of the stripes.
